Dear Diary:

Some certificates in our retirement plan will come due shortly. Today I hopped into the Marnmobile and motored into town to visit the bank and decide what to do with them next.

Yes, while you zygotes continue to grasshopper through life, the spousal unit and I are being good little ants, saving what we can for our retirement.

I'm proud to report that the way the stock market and interest rates are going, it's starting to look as though we'll be able to chow down on the premium cat food during our golden years, a major, major improvement over the store brand I originally envisaged.

I can feel your envy from here.

(Our cats, of course, will be on their own once we retire in fifteen years or so. I do hope they've been setting some mice aside for a rainy day.)

Okay, so there I was sitting in Joanne's office at the bank waiting for her to print out the paperwork and in the background was some soft rock. When I figured out the song they were playing, I had to fight very, very hard to keep a straight face.

Remember "Dust in the Wind"?

Anyone?

To refresh your memory, the lyrics go like this:

Duuuuuust in the winnnnnnnnnd
All we are is dust in the wind
Duuuuuust in the winnnnnnnnnd
Everything is dust in the wind

Oh yeah, THAT little ditty makes planning for the future seem so very, very relevant.

My bank may want to re-think their choice of music.

This template is a riff on a design by the truly talented Quinn. Because I'm a html 'tard, I got alot of pity coding to modify it from Ms. Kittay, a woman who can make html roll over, beg, and bring her her slippers. The logo goodness comes from the God of Graphics, the Fuhrer of Fonts, the one, the only El Presidente. I smooch you all. The background image is part of a painting called Higher Calling by Carter Goodrich which graced the cover of the Aug. 3, 1998 issue of The New Yorker Magazine.
