Dear Diary:

The Wizard of Oz was on TV last night and every time she sees it Paul's mom likes to point out that Glinda, The Good Witch of the North, could have been her mom and my spousal unit's grandmother, eh.

We could have had a good witch in our family tree. As you can imagine, I'm just sick about the fact that Paul's grandfather broke off the engagement. Well, um, technically speaking it was Billie Burke the actress who played Glinda but, JEEPERS, it just sounds better when you say Glinda could have been Paul's grandma, you know? This is as close to a Brush With Fame as it gets for our family.

Sigh.

Billie was engaged to Paul's maternal grandfather, but according to family lore he didn't believe in women working after marriage. So, before he would marry her, he demanded that Billie give up her stage and silent movie career. She refused, he broke off the engagement and went on to marry a woman from Ohio instead.

We could have had the Good Witch of the North in our family tree.

Well, not really, because if she had married Paul's grandfather she would never have had the career she enjoyed. That line "women can have it all" is one of the great lies, don't you think, right up there with that "one size fits all" line they put on panty hose.

Ooooooh, DON'T get me started on a panty hose rant ...

Must ... take ... deep ... breaths. There, I feel much better. Now where was I? Oh yes, Glinda almost becoming Paul's grandmother.

Paul's maternal grandfather as a young man. The ressemblance to Paul is startling. I wonder if she ever thought about Paul's grandfather after they broke up?

I hear he thought about her ...

This template is a riff on a design by the truly talented Quinn. Because I'm a html 'tard, I got alot of pity coding to modify it from Ms. Kittay, a woman who can make html roll over, beg, and bring her her slippers. The logo goodness comes from the God of Graphics, the Fuhrer of Fonts, the one, the only El Presidente. I smooch you all.
